Amidst Horror, Heroism

There are a lot of questions to be answered about what happened at Fort Hood, but one thing is clear — the actions of civilian police officer Sgt. Kimberly Munley were tremendously heroic and unquestionably saved lives.  As Nidal Hasan coldly shot unarmed soldiers, Sgt. Munley came to the scene, engaged Hasan, and shot him four times while being wounded repeatedly herself.  Eyewitnesses all credit Sgt. Munley for preventing an even more appalling slaughter.

It is comforting to know that there are brave individuals like Sgt. Munley on the front lines, at home and abroad, well trained and ready to serve and protect in times of crisis.
