Early Music Columbus

IMG_0110Today Kish and I went to see a performance in the Early Music Columbus series — a Twelfth Night Celebration  by The Early Interval in the magnificent First Congregational Church.

Early music is not for everyone — some of the early Renaissance pieces sound somewhat discordant to our modern ears — but it is fascinating to listen to the early instruments.  The Early Interval is great because each of the players is adept at playing multiple instruments — from violin to lute to guitars, from recorders to theorbo to drums and cymbals, which allows them to tackle a wide variety of pieces — and they can sing the a cappella songs, too.  And the First Congregational Church, with its vaulted ceilings, is a great setting for a performance.

Columbus is a wonderful town for live music.  You just have to look for it.
