Sheep And Goats

On our trip to Charleston we visited a former plantation that keeps some animals on the grounds, including sheep, goats, horses, cattle, chickens, and peacocks.

The sheep are allowed to roam the extensive lawn, and they earn their keep by neatly clipping the grass. Thanks to their diligent grazing, the lawn looks freshly mown.

As for the goats? Well, they are kept in a pen. When we walked by the enclosure, the goats were standing stock-still on some elevated boards. We asked one of the hands why the elevated boards were in the goat pen. He shrugged and said he didn’t know why, but the goats seemed to like standing there, balanced on the boards.

Goats clearly are the eccentrics of the barnyard.
