Anybody who has been to a big business conference has seen this: the little dish of wholly generic hard candy. It’s not butterscotch, it’s not mints. Instead, it’s some kind of unbrand offering, of indeterminate flavor — is the pink option watermelon? — and always positioned next to the water pitcher. Does anyone really eat this stuff? Does it get recycled from conference to conference? If so, it was probably originally purchased in, say, 1990.
